Cova
A two-person, Y Combinator-backed startup running its own licensed Michigan home care agency, with AI agents standing in for the back-office staff a normal agency would hire.
The pitch
Cova describes itself plainly on its Y Combinator company page: “Cova is an AI-native home care agency, licensed in Michigan. We serve Medicaid, LTCI, and private-pay patients; we pay caregivers the highest base rate in the state; and we help unpaid family caregivers get paid through programs they didn’t know they qualified for.”
The company website leads with a simpler line: get paid to care for family, covered by Medicaid. The two framings point at the same product. A relative already providing unpaid care for a parent or spouse on Medicaid can, in many cases, be paid for that work through Michigan's Home Help program. Cova's bet is that AI agents can run the enrollment paperwork and Medicaid billing for that arrangement cheaply enough to also employ and pay caregivers who are not family, at what it says is the highest base rate in the state.
The problem it names
In its Launch YC post, Cova frames the market in three numbers: “11,000 Americans turn 65 every day, and 70% want to age at home. 53 million people are already unpaid family caregivers, over $1 trillion in economic value every year that the system doesn’t capture.” Those are the company's own figures, not independently checked here.
Its account of the pain point is specific to process, not product: “The application and paperwork alone take weeks of back-and-forth across a caregiver, a patient and their family, a doctor, and a state caseworker, with paper forms bouncing between all of them. Most of that time isn't care; it's coordination. Most families give up before care ever starts, and caregivers wait unpaid.”
Founders
Jordan Ibe studied computer science and statistics at Cornell University and, per the company's own account, worked as a forward deployed software engineer on Palantir's healthcare team and as a software engineer at Uber. A public LinkedIn profile under his name lists Cornell University and Uber, which is consistent with that account, though this page did not independently verify his Palantir role.
Ansh Tandon completed a BSE and MSE in bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania and, per the company, previously worked as a deployment strategist on Palantir's healthcare team and as a researcher at Daffodil Health. A public LinkedIn profile under his name is titled “Palantir, BioE @ UPenn,” which independently corroborates the Palantir and Penn bioengineering background; a ZoomInfo listing separately lists him as an FDE at Palantir.
Both founders worked on Palantir's healthcare deployment team before starting Cova, which lines up with the company's pitch of running a healthcare operation as a software and data problem.
What "licensed" means here
Cova calls itself a “licensed home care agency” on both its YC page and its Launch YC post. Michigan, however, does not issue a state license for non-medical home care agencies of the kind Cova describes: personal care, companionship and homemaker services. A licensing guide citing Michigan's Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs states plainly that “Michigan does not require a specific state license to run a non-medical home care agency,” and that only skilled-nursing Home Health Agencies require LARA licensure, a different category. What non-medical agencies do need to operate as Medicaid providers is enrollment through CHAMPS, Michigan's Medicaid provider system, plus standard LLC registration, insurance and staff background checks. It is possible Cova means CHAMPS enrollment and business registration when it says “licensed,” but no state home-care license record was found to confirm the specific claim.
Where it stands
Cova launched publicly on Y Combinator's site in 2026, as part of the Summer 2026 batch, with a two-person team. Its Launch YC post asks for introductions to Michigan Medicaid managed care organizations, long-term care insurance contacts, and hospital systems including Henry Ford Health and Corewell, along with discharge planners and case managers, the kind of asks a very early company makes before it has those relationships in place. The company also operates a separate informational site, michiganhomehelp.com, describing Michigan's Medicaid Home Help program, according to a third-party API directory listing; this page did not independently confirm common ownership beyond that listing.

Everything about its actual operation, licensing status, Medicaid billing, caregiver pay, and any funding, comes from the company itself, and no public record was found yet to test it against.
What to watch
- Whether an NPI record or CHAMPS enrollment for Cova becomes searchable as it takes on Medicaid patients.
- Any SEC Form D filing, which would confirm outside investment beyond Y Combinator's own funding.
- Independent local Detroit or Michigan coverage of the company, which does not exist yet.
- Named intros or partnerships with the Michigan MCOs and hospital systems the company is asking for in its launch post.
