DailyDoctor

A one minute a day check-in built to catch COPD, heart failure, hypertension and stroke risk before they turn into an ER visit. Y Combinator backed, piloted with a Central California health system for years, and now listed by YC as inactive.

A scale, a cuff and a phone call

The pitch is simple. Every morning, a patient with a chronic lung or heart condition steps on a scale, wraps a blood pressure cuff around an arm, and answers a short check-in by phone, text link or website, no app or smartphone required. If the patient does not respond, DailyDoctor texts or calls to follow up.

A physician or a member of their team reviews the data shortly after, and reaches out the same day if something looks off. The monitoring kit shipped to patients can include a scale, a blood pressure monitor and a pulse oximeter, depending on the condition being tracked. The company says this kind of remote patient monitoring is billable through Medicare and Medi Cal for eligible beneficiaries, with supplemental insurance covering the rest of the monthly cost.

The gap it is aimed at

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure and uncontrolled hypertension are among the leading drivers of hospitalization and death in the United States. The exacerbations that land patients in the ER often show warning signs days earlier, in changes to weight, blood pressure or oxygen saturation that nobody is watching for between office visits. DailyDoctor's bet was that a one minute daily touchpoint, reviewed by a physician, could catch those signs in time.

The company also pitched itself as an answer to a shrinking supply of doctors relative to a growing, aging population. "With fewer doctors and a growing aging population, our country needs to equip every healthcare worker with the tools to effectively manage more patients," said Marlon Castillo, the company's COO, in a 2020 announcement, arguing that a single clinician using the platform could oversee thousands of patients at once.

A Stanford trained MD's second act

Vijay Rajasekhar grew up in the Mojave Desert and went on to Stanford, completing an MD, an MBA and a fellowship at the Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign, the program that also produced Cala Health. Before starting DailyDoctor, he helped design a second product for Intersect ENT, a drug eluting sinus stent that won FDA approval in 2012, and later joined the biotech Myovant Sciences as its third employee, helping run a Phase 3 trial for prostate cancer.

He recruited a team, built the platform, raised funding and launched what was then called AIRx Health through Y Combinator's Winter 2019 batch, with Marlon Castillo, MBA, as chief operating officer. The company's about page, archived in 2021, describes a founding and advisor group with backgrounds at Stanford, Harvard, MIT, UCLA, Google and Square, and lists Dr. Stephen Ruoss, Clinical Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care at Stanford, as a clinical advisor.

COPD pilot, a pandemic pivot, a rebrand, then a wind down

The earliest documented partnership is with Kaweah Delta Health Care District in Central California and Sequoia Health and Wellness Center, which the company says began piloting the platform for COPD monitoring in 2019. "The AIRx Health platform is simple, effective, and elegant," Ryan Gates, PharmD, chief executive of Sequoia Health and Wellness Center and vice president of population health management at Kaweah Delta, said in a 2020 release.

When COVID-19 hit, the company adapted the same check-in model to monitor outpatients and exposed frontline staff. Starting in June 2020, researchers at Stanford University School of Medicine used the platform in a study of up to 2,000 COVID-19 outpatients, looking for early signs of silent hypoxia. Kaweah Delta also used it from March 2020 to monitor its own workforce of over 5,100 employees.

By 2022 the company had rebranded from AIRx Health to DailyDoctor. "DailyDoctor (formerly AIRx Health) is a digital healthcare company pioneering remote patient monitoring for people with chronic conditions across the United States," the company wrote in a June 2022 post marking the change, which also said the Kaweah Delta partnership had by then run for over three years. The public facing marketing site, mydailydoctor.com, was still live with the same pitch when this profile was written in September 2026.

Y Combinator's own company listing gives a different ending. It records DailyDoctor's status as Inactive. Rajasekhar himself confirmed the outcome in June 2024, in a post introducing him as a new associate at the venture firm Intuitive Ventures: "I recruited a team, built a digital health software solution, fundraised, and launched DailyDoctor, a product to remotely monitor high-risk patients between their local doctor visits. Through this experience I learned how to sell into health systems, build and operate telehealth clinics, manage credentialing and billing infrastructure, and evaluate and build the right team and software tech-stack to empower digital health solutions. When DailyDoctor ultimately didn't cross the proverbial chasm to scale, I experienced first hand what happens to most startups - the need to wind down."

What is proven, and what is still claimed

Operations track. DailyDoctor sold remote patient monitoring as a clinical service, not a cleared medical device or a drugmaker. No FDA 510(k) or PMA record, registered clinical trial, NIH award, NSF award or peer-reviewed publication for the company turned up in the records used for this profile.

SEC Form DNo Form D on record for an issuer named AIRx Health or DailyDoctor. Current statusY Combinator lists status Inactive. Founder Vijay Rajasekhar wrote in June 2024 that the company did not scale and had to wind down. The marketing site was still live, unchanged, as of September 2026.Site live, status inactive

Read plainly: DailyDoctor's evidence base is mostly company-stated and partner-quoted, not independently measured. The clearest independent fact is the outcome itself. Y Combinator marks the company inactive, and its founder has said on the record that it wound down after failing to scale, even though the public website kept running years after that account.

What to watch

  • Whether mydailydoctor.com stays online or is finally taken down, given the gap between the live site and the company's confirmed inactive status.
  • Any published outcomes from the Kaweah Delta and Sequoia Health COPD pilots, which ran for years but have no independent results on record.
  • Whether an amended or new SEC filing ever appears under the DailyDoctor or AIRx Health name to clarify how much of the company-stated investor list actually funded it.

In their words

“Beyond COVID-19 management, our goal is to fundamentally change the orientation of healthcare delivery from reactive to preventive. One of the reasons the U.S. has been harder hit with COVID-19 is that our population has one of the highest rates of uncontrolled chronic conditions.”
