InQuery
A Y Combinator backed startup that reads medical records for claims teams and law firms, pulling out the facts, gaps and contradictions that decide a case. Founded in 2023, it has no funding, FDA or trial record on file yet, only what the company and a handful of data aggregators report.
What claims adjusters do all day
In their Y Combinator launch post, InQuery’s founders described the job they were trying to change. “Claims adjusters like my sister spend most of their day transcribing telephone calls, navigating large sets of semi-structured policies, and mapping data from large and complicated medical documents to relatively structured schemas in their existing CMS,” they wrote.
That is the starting picture for InQuery: a claims handler with a hundred open files, each one a stack of records that has to be read before anything can be decided.
The problem
InQuery’s pitch rests on a staffing story. The insurance industry, the founders wrote, “is facing a labor shortage that is creating a negative spiral for staffing.” As carriers struggle to hire, existing adjusters get overloaded, retention suffers, and per case quality drops. Frustrated claimants seek lawyers, litigation rates climb, and claim costs rise just as medical inflation is doing the same.
By 2026 the company had broadened that pitch beyond insurance carriers alone. Its site now describes three groups of buyers: carriers and TPAs doing claims work, plaintiff law firms building personal injury demands, and medical legal service providers handling independent medical exams, Medicare set asides, legal nurse consulting and cost containment. The common thread across all three, per the company, is the same slow first step: reading the file before anyone can act on it.
Two Stanford roommates
Erick Enriquez and Khalil Miri met as freshmen living in the same dorm while studying computer science at Stanford. “Before starting InQuery, we’ve been best friends since living in the same dorm during our freshman year studying Computer Science at Stanford,” they wrote in their 2024 launch post.
Enriquez holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematical and Computational Sciences and a master’s in Computer Science, both from Stanford, according to the company’s own team page. Miri holds a Stanford computer science degree with a focus on artificial intelligence and machine learning, and the company site credits him with a bronze medal at the International Math Olympiad. A short, informally written founder profile posted in 2021 adds that Miri worked at the trading firm DRW before the startup, a detail this profile could not independently confirm elsewhere. DRW Venture Capital is listed among InQuery’s investors by a third party data aggregator, a connection worth noting but not one either party has explained on the record.
Two more engineers round out the team InQuery lists on its own site: Nader Jemel, a bronze medalist at the International Olympiad in Informatics with a computer science degree from MIT, and Tarek Aloui, a Harvard computer science graduate and Intel ISEF Grand Award winner.
From claims agent to record reviewer
InQuery started in 2023 and joined Y Combinator’s Winter 2024 batch, with Pete Koomen as primary partner. The launch post that ran with that batch pitched “InQuery - AI-powered Claims Management System” and framed the company around claims handling agents: “Our mission is to develop AI agents tailored for the insurance industry, beginning with with claims handling.”
The product on the company’s site today reads differently. It opens with “InQuery finds the facts buried in medical records” and organizes the pitch around what a reviewer needs from a file: what happened, what is missing, what is inconsistent, and what to do next. The company says every fact in its output links back to the page it came from.
By September 2026 InQuery was publishing a regular blog on medical chronology and record review practice, and it told readers it is “one of 10 companies in InsurTech NY’s 2026 Match Program, connecting insurtechs with carriers, brokers, and investors across claims and legal work.” That program runs an education day and a match day with carriers and investors in New York each September.
What is proven, and what is still claimed
| Evidence | What the record shows | Source type |
|---|---|---|
| Founding and address | Founded 2023, headquartered in New York City. A business data listing gives the address as 447 Broadway, 2nd floor, New York, NY 10013. | Independent |
| Y Combinator batch | Winter 2024 (W24), listed as active with Pete Koomen as primary partner. Y Combinator’s own profile, captured February 2024, put team size at 4. | Independent |
| Team size over time | A 2024 snapshot from GetLatka lists 2 employees. A 2026 snapshot from RocketReach lists 7, with 4 profiled on that site. The two do not agree, and neither is a filed headcount. | Not reconciled |
| Investors named | Extruct, a funding data aggregator, listed Y Combinator, Amino Capital, DRW Venture Capital and General Catalyst as of April 2024. RocketReach, in a 2026 profile, adds Gopher Asset Management and unnamed others. Neither source gives a round name, amount or date. | Unverified |
| SEC Form D | No Form D notice under InQuery’s name was located in the research for this profile. | Not found |
| FDA, NIH, NSF, trial records | None apply. InQuery sells software to legal and insurance teams and is not a device, drug or trial sponsor. | Not applicable |
| Accelerator participation | InQuery says it is one of 10 companies in InsurTech NY’s 2026 Match Program, a growth stage accelerator connecting insurtechs with carriers, brokers and investors. | Company-stated |
| Usage claim | The company website states “1M+ pages processed,” with no underlying data or customer breakdown published. | Company-stated |
| Named customers | The site describes three buyer categories, carriers and TPAs, plaintiff law firms, and medical legal service providers, but names no specific customer, law firm or carrier. | Not named |
Read plainly: what can be checked here is that InQuery exists, was founded in 2023, went through Y Combinator, and is now marketing to carriers, law firms and medical legal service providers. What cannot be checked is money, customers, or scale. No SEC filing, funded round amount, or named client turned up anywhere in this research, and the investor names that do circulate come from data aggregators rather than a press release, a filing or the company itself.
What to watch
- Whether InQuery or a named investor files a Form D or otherwise discloses a funding round and amount.
- Named customers: a carrier, TPA, law firm or medical legal service provider willing to be identified.
- Independent press coverage beyond business directories and the company’s own posts.
- How InQuery’s September 2026 InsurTech NY Match Program cohort converts into carrier pilots or partnerships.
