MedMe Health
Web software that lets pharmacies book, document and bill vaccinations, minor ailment visits and chronic care checks. It grew out of the Canadian vaccine rollout, now says it serves more than 4,500 pharmacies, and is pushing into the United States with AI note taking and medical billing.
760,000 appointments in a month
In December 2021, a Toronto software company logged 760,000 appointments on its platform in a single month, during a year when its customers gave out more than 2.2 million COVID-19 vaccine doses and 155,000 tests.
That number comes from MedMe Health’s own March 2022 release, and it is the company’s best explanation of itself. “Our ability to respond to [the] pandemic was really, hugely reliant on the role of pharmacies and pharmacists,” CEO Purya Sarmadi told BetaKit that month.
The problem
Pharmacy software was built to count pills. Dispensing systems track prescriptions, inventory and insurance claims for drugs. They were not built to book a flu shot, collect consent, write a note about a minor ailment visit, follow up in two weeks and then bill for the time.
Sarmadi put it this way: “It’s been, generally, not built for integration, and it’s also been very siloed.” MedMe’s answer is a web platform that sits beside the dispensing system, with APIs and, for locked-down legacy systems, screen automation that operates them the way a person would.
The business logic is a bet on scope of practice. Pharmacists in Ontario and other provinces can now prescribe for minor conditions and give vaccines, and several US states are moving the same way. Each service is a paid visit, but only if someone documents it well enough to be paid. On its current about page the company says less than 20 percent of the clinical work US pharmacists do gets billed.
Founders
Sarmadi has a master’s in health informatics from the University of Toronto and a bachelor’s in medical sciences from Western University, according to a professional directory. The same profile lists earlier analyst roles at Cancer Care Ontario and Invictus Analytics and Strategy. A University of Toronto Hatchery listing says the idea was first developed in that campus incubator after graduation.
Rui Su is a pharmacist (PharmD 2018, University of Waterloo) and chief clinical officer. Nicholas Hui is chief product officer. Su told MaRS the founders’ first meeting “just clicked,” and that she and the other two came to the problem separately: she from the pharmacy floor, they from watching family members manage chronic illness.
Su described the early pitch meetings bluntly. “There were so many naysayers, so many people along the way who didn’t understand the value pharmacists bring to patient care,” she told Waterloo News. Forbes named Hui and Su to its 30 Under 30 healthcare list for 2024, according to a company post.
From incubators to a Microsoft-led seed
The company passed through the University of Toronto Hatchery, the University of Waterloo’s Velocity program and then Y Combinator’s Winter 2021 batch. A pre-seed of C$750,000 led by MaRS Investment Accelerator Fund arrived about a year before the seed. Waterloo News reported C$100,000 from a Velocity pitch competition and C$70,000 from a Wefunder pitch event.
In March 2022 MedMe announced a C$3.4 million seed (US$2.7 million) led by M12, Microsoft’s venture fund, with Graphite Ventures, MaRS IAF and Y Combinator. BetaKit put total funding at C$4.7 million. The stated purpose was the United States, starting with Georgia and then states such as Oregon, Idaho and North Carolina.
Three years later, in August 2025, CIBC Innovation Banking announced a growth credit facility. The amount was not disclosed. By then MedMe was selling AI tools: a Clinical Assistant that transcribes and fills in notes, and Patient Concierge, a voice agent that handles refill and booking calls.
What is proven, and what is still claimed
| Evidence | What the record shows | Source type |
|---|---|---|
| Named chain customers, Canada | The March 2022 release lists Rexall, Shoppers Drug Mart, Jean Coutu Group, Guardian, IDA, The Medicine Shoppe, Remedy’sRx and Pharmasave. BetaKit repeated four of them (Rexall, Shoppers, Guardian, Pharmasave). Rexall’s SVP of pharmacy services is quoted in the release. | Company-stated |
| Shoppers Drug Mart booking page | A Shoppers Drug Mart scheduling page on MedMe’s own domain shows 36 Internet Archive captures between Nov 23, 2021 and Aug 29, 2026. That confirms a live deployment but not its size. | Web archive |
| Customer counts over time | 1,100 pharmacies (Mar 2021), 3,600 (Mar 2022), “nearly 4,000” (2022 to 2023), over 4,000 (Nov 2023), 4,500+ (2025 and 2026). The July 2026 about page says 4,500+ pharmacies “enrolled” and 12M+ patients managed, while the home page says 30M+ patient interactions. | Company-stated |
| Definition of “customer” | Counts are of pharmacy locations, not contracts. A chain of hundreds of stores adds hundreds to the total. No source breaks the count down by chain or by paid versus free use. | Not found |
| Seed round | C$3.4M, announced Mar 17, 2022, led by M12. A law firm that advised the company confirms the amount and lead. BetaKit calls it a January financing; the release is dated March. | Independent |
| Founder list | The current about page says Hui and Sarmadi founded MedMe. BetaKit, MaRS, Waterloo and Tracxn name Su as a third co-founder, and Tracxn lists her as CFO where every other source says chief clinical officer. | Sources differ |
| Canadian corporation | Listed as MedMe Health Limited, Ontario, in a corporate directory and by counsel. The directory shows a Richmond Hill address, not Toronto. Incorporation date and corporation number were not confirmed. | Registry aggregator |
| SEC Form D and US entity | No Form D and no EDGAR mention for MedMe was found in the pipeline records. The US operating entity was not identified. | Not found |
| US customers | Georgia was named as the launch state in 2022. No US pharmacy chain customer is named in any source found. | Not found |
Read plainly: MedMe is a real, funded company with visible Canadian chain relationships, and its reach claims are consistent in direction across four years. What is not shown is how much revenue those 4,500 locations produce, or whether the US business has customers a reader can name.
What to watch
- A named US pharmacy chain or payer contract. The 2026 site talks about enterprise networks, but the only named customers are Canadian.
- Disclosure of the CIBC facility size, and any equity round after the 2022 seed.
- Form D filings. A US financing would normally show up on EDGAR within 15 days of the first sale.
- Whether the medical billing add-on turns booked visits into paid claims, the gap the company itself says is the opportunity.
