A Boston software company that built COVID-19 testing, vaccine and symptom compliance tools for schools, employers and nursing homes during the pandemic. It is now listed as inactive by its own accelerator.
A morning ritual, campus wide
At Trinity College in Hartford, the instructions were simple. Every morning, students, faculty and staff logged into an app with their school email address and answered a symptom questionnaire before they could go to class. If they were assigned a testing day that week, based on the first letter of their last name, the same app booked the appointment, and later delivered the result as a downloadable PDF.
That app was CoVerified. It did not run the lab. It sat between the lab, the university administration and the student, moving test orders, symptom attestations and results through one login instead of a stack of spreadsheets and emails.
For a school trying to reopen a dormitory in the fall of 2020, that plumbing was the product.
The problem it tried to solve
Reopening in 2020 and 2021 meant collecting a lot of health data fast: who was tested, who was positive, who had reported symptoms, who had a vaccine card on file, and who was cleared to be on site. Doing that by hand, across a population of students or employees, generates exactly the kind of spreadsheet chaos CoVerified's own site described as its reason for existing.
CoVerified pitched itself as connective tissue for that problem: a HIPAA-compliant system that pulled results directly from a testing partner, paired them with self-reported symptoms and vaccine records, and gave administrators a single dashboard to decide who could come back.
Founders from medicine, MIT and Harvard
The company's own about page described “an elite group of seasoned healthcare system designers, technologists, public health and policy experts from Harvard & MIT,” with a founding team of “practicing physicians, engineers and business executives.” Brandon Busuito, an emergency medicine physician, is named as founder and CEO across the company's press releases and its Y Combinator listing. Y Combinator also lists Frank Albanese and Zoya Ajani as founders; Albanese's own YC-linked bio identifies him as part of the same Winter 2021 batch. No interview describing why the three started the company was found in the saved record, so the personal motivation behind CoVerified is unknown from the sources here.
The company assembled an advisory board heavy with Boston medical and policy credentials: Simon Johnson, the MIT Sloan economist and co-chair of the MIT COVID-19 Policy Alliance; Zen Chu of AccelMed Ventures; and several emergency medicine physicians from Harvard-affiliated hospitals and health systems in Massachusetts and Michigan, according to the company's about page.
From a Broad Institute integration to a Y Combinator batch
CoVerified's first major public marker came in July 2020, when it announced a data integration with the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, whose genomics platform had converted a CLIA-certified lab into a high-throughput COVID-19 testing center. The Broad Institute's own account of its higher-education testing program, covering more than 100 Massachusetts colleges and universities that fall, confirmed the arrangement from its side: schools using Broad's testing pipeline could elect to run CoVerified's app for symptom reporting and result delivery, alongside a separate data pipeline built by ELLKAY.
By January 2021, CoVerified had entered Y Combinator's Winter 2021 batch and announced a partnership with Pro EMS Solutions to bring testing and vaccine tracking to nursing homes tied to the Massachusetts Senior Care Association at no cost to the facilities. By December 2021, the company said it had processed more than 15 million tests, vaccine cards and symptom reports for over 300,000 users, and it added a module aimed at the Biden administration's pending OSHA vaccination and testing mandate. In July 2022, with COVID funding for schools and employers drying up and rapid antigen tests replacing much lab-based PCR work, CoVerified pivoted part of its business toward selling discounted antigen test kits to nursing homes through a new site, NursingHomeTests.org, reporting 350,000-plus users by that point.
That July 2022 release is the last public announcement found for the company. No further press releases, product updates or news coverage were located after that date.

Read plainly: the parts of CoVerified's story that outside parties can confirm, the Broad Institute integration, the Trinity College deployment and its presence in a Y Combinator batch, hold up. The scale numbers, the nursing home facility count and the founding story all come only from the company's own releases. There is no SEC filing, and no independent report puts a dollar figure on what CoVerified raised beyond a single aggregator's unverified $125,000 line.
What to watch
- Whether CoVerified's Y Combinator listing, currently marked Inactive, is ever updated, and whether any of the three founders reuse the platform or brand elsewhere.
- Whether an SEC Form D or any other public financing record ever surfaces for the company, to confirm or replace the single $125,000 aggregator figure.
- Whether the discrepancy between the company's stated 2020 founding date and a vendor listing's 2017 date is ever resolved or explained.
