Elemeno Health
A point of care microlearning app for hospital nurses and technicians, built by a pediatric intensivist who lost his sister to a surgical error. Ten years on it has one peer reviewed outcomes paper, revenue of $2.6 million, and its third chief executive.
Ninety nine minutes
In a 29 bed emergency department in Fairfield, California, a patient arrives with a heart attack. The clock that matters is time to balloon: how long until a catheter opens the blocked artery. The workflow crosses nurses, technicians and a cardiac lab, and most staff run it only a few times a year.
The department put that workflow on phones. A guide, built from its own protocol, was viewed 50 times by 31 people. Across the study window the time to balloon fell from 123 minutes to 99 minutes.
The sample was small: seventeen cases before, nine after. The authors were careful about what that means. The paper says leadership “reported greater compliance with the established workflows, which implies an increase in patient outcomes by shorter door-to-balloon times.” Implies, not proves.
That single 2024 paper in Nursing Management remains the only peer reviewed study of Elemeno Health in the published literature.
The gap between knowing and doing
Hospitals write policies. Frontline staff execute them, often at three in the morning, on equipment that changed last quarter. Roy-Burman calls this the policy to practice gap, and he watched it produce harm across two decades of root cause reviews.
The economics are unforgiving. A 2022 systematic review cited in the Nursing Management paper put the direct cost of replacing one nurse between $21,514 and $88,000. The traditional answers are binders, email blasts and classroom in services repeated for every shift.
Elemeno sells the opposite shape: short video, images and checklists, rebuilt for one unit’s own equipment and workflows, reachable on any device without an electronic record integration. The company is a Delaware public benefit corporation and sells per unit subscriptions, typically paid annually up front.

Roy-Burman was eight years old when his four year old sister went into an operating room for repair of a ventricular septal defect, a common congenital heart defect. She did not come out.
“My little sister was born with a VSD, a common heart defect. When I was 8, she went to the hospital for a surgery to repair it. Unexpectedly, she died in the O.R. from a medical error,” he told Republic in 2020.
He became a pediatric intensivist instead of walking away from hospitals. UCSF medical degree in 1994, Stanford residency, critical care fellowship split between UCSF and Children’s Hospital Oakland. From 2011 to 2016 he ran the pediatric ICU at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco.
The prototype was built inside UCSF, on the Salesforce platform the Benioff gift had made available, and aimed first at a hospital acquired infection. “We demonstrated a 48% reduction in infections, savings of $1.1M, and an estimated 3 lives saved,” he said of that internal work. Those figures have not been published in a journal. UCSF calls the company a spin off. It went through Y Combinator in Summer 2016.
Three chief executives in three years
Roy-Burman ran the company through 2023. Linda Hand signed the Reg CF filing as chief executive in August 2024 and left after about a year. Tim Coulter signed the annual report as CEO in March 2026. Roy-Burman now signs as Founder and CSMO, and remains on the board.
The pitch moved with them. In 2022 it was a playbook in your pocket for nurses. By August 2026 it was a frontline operations platform reaching into pharmacy, radiology and laboratory services, with a channel deal with Swisslog Healthcare for pharmacy robotics.

Read plainly: the customer list is real, and several of those customers have described the product in outlets the company does not control. The efficiency case rests on one journal paper and one detailed case study. The safety case, the claim the founder built the company around, rests on numbers never published anywhere a reader can check them.
What to watch
- Whether the 75% harm reduction figure is ever published, or quietly retired from the marketing.
- Whether a second peer reviewed study appears, ideally one without a company employee as co-author.
- Cash. The company ended 2025 with $333,284 and has filed no new securities notice since February 2024.
- Whether the Swisslog channel converts into revenue in the fiscal 2026 annual report.
- Whether the hospital count settles on one number the company uses consistently.
