Furmacy

A husband and wife veterinary pharmacy that Y Combinator backed in 2020 was bought by a public pet company two years later, had its physical pharmacy closed within months, came back in 2024 as e-prescribing software called Furscription, and was sold again in 2025.

A pharmacy run out of El Dorado Hills

Furmacy, Inc. does not look, on paper, like a San Francisco startup. Y Combinator lists its home city as San Francisco, and the company’s own site pointed the same way. But when Wag! Group Co. filed its 2022 annual report with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the leases it said it picked up in the deal told a different story: an office lease and a separate warehouse lease in El Dorado Hills, California, a town in the Sierra foothills east of Sacramento, not the Bay Area.

That is where Furmacy actually filled prescriptions. What Georgia and Alex Jeremiah built was not only software. Wag’s SEC filing describes the business it bought as “a concierge prescription and compounding service that delivers pet health directly to the Pet Parent’s door,” the kind of operation that needs a warehouse, not only a laptop.

The problem: handwritten scripts and phone tag

Veterinary prescribing still runs largely on fax machines, phone calls, and paper pads. When a pet owner wants a prescription filled somewhere other than the clinic, whether an online pharmacy, a compounding lab, or a retail chain now selling pet medication, the request usually has to be relayed by hand between the clinic and the pharmacy. Later Furscription marketing, citing a white paper from FDB Vela, put the cost of that friction at 400 to 600 hours a year for a typical veterinarian.

Furmacy’s first answer was to become the pharmacy itself: fill and compound the prescriptions and ship them to the pet owner's door. Only later, folded inside a larger public company, did the surviving piece of the business become a software tool sold to other clinics and pharmacies rather than a pharmacy of its own.

Two Jeremiahs, one company

Georgia Jeremiah is a veterinarian. Alex Jeremiah is the engineer. They founded Furmacy together in 2020 and went through Y Combinator’s Winter 2021 batch, with Georgia as CEO and Alex as CTO. A November 2022 episode of the Veterinary Innovation Podcast, titled “Dr. Georgia Jeremiah | Furmacy,” listed “Starting a Business With Your Spouse” among its topics, confirming what the shared surname suggested. By the time Y Combinator's company page was last updated, the team had never grown past five people.

Y Combinator's standard Winter 2021 check was $125,000 for a fixed slice of equity, and a company data tracker, Tracxn, lists Furmacy's only recorded funding round as a $125,000 seed in 2021 with Y Combinator as the investor, a figure consistent with that standard deal. No SEC Form D, NIH grant, NSF grant, or FDA record for Furmacy turned up in this review: on the public record, the Jeremiahs built a pharmacy and a piece of prescribing software without ever raising a larger outside round.

Bought by a public company, then quietly closed

On August 30, 2022, Wag! Group Co., the Nasdaq listed dog walking marketplace, announced a deal to acquire Furmacy. The transaction closed on October 24, 2022, an all stock deal funded with about 90,000 shares of Wag common stock, worth approximately $0.43 million at closing according to S&P Capital IQ data cited by MarketScreener. Wag's own 10-K called the deal immaterial to the company. Furmacy added just $0.1 million of revenue to Wag's books in its first two months inside the larger company.

The physical pharmacy did not last. By May 2023, about seven months after the deal closed, the Sacramento Business Journal reported that the pet pharmacy called Furmacy in El Dorado Hills had shut down.

Furscription: the software survives

What survived was the prescribing technology. In April 2024, Wag announced Furscription, a product it said had been “meticulously developed over the last several years,” with Georgia Jeremiah credited as the veterinarian behind it and named as Entrepreneur in Residence at Wag. The product launched out of a select beta in May 2024, still directing sign ups to furmacy.com’s waitlist page and the hello@furmacy.com inbox. Wag said it had a letter of intent to integrate Furscription with a platform serving thousands of clinics, plus a growing individual clinic waitlist, but it did not name any paying clinic customer.

Fourteen months after that launch, on July 14, 2025, Wag sold the Furscription business, brand, technology and related assets, to MWI Veterinary Supply Co., a large veterinary products distributor. The deal was for cash, the amount undisclosed, and Wag said the proceeds would pay down outstanding debt. Four Wag employees moved to MWI. MWI relaunched the product at $75 a month for new customers and $50 a month at a loyalty rate, bundled with fax hosting and practice management integration.

Read plainly: the deal terms for Furmacy's sale to Wag are on the public record because Wag is a public company that had to disclose them. The deal terms for Furscription's later sale to MWI are not, because neither party was required to say what changed hands beyond “cash consideration.” What is consistent across both owners is a pattern of naming almost no customers by name, whether the veterinary clinics that used the software or the pharmacies Furmacy once compounded for.

What to watch

  • Whether MWI names any clinic customers or publishes usage numbers for Furscription now that it sits inside a larger distributor's technology suite.
  • Whether the unnamed platform Wag said had signed an LOI to integrate Furscription, described as serving thousands of clinics, ever surfaces publicly.
  • Whether Georgia or Alex Jeremiah appear in new veterinary technology ventures. Neither founder's later role turned up in this review.
  • Whether MWI's $75 and $50 a month pricing changes now that Furscription sits inside a distributor's bundle.
