Anchor Health
A two person Y Combinator startup that set out to bring software, hardware and operations tools to home health agencies. It shipped a marketing site and a product pitch, drew no press coverage, and is now listed inactive.
A redirect, and a pitch
In January 2016, a browser pointed at anchorhealth.com did not land on anchorhealth.com. It bounced, automatically, to a different address: joinanchor.com. There, a single marketing page made the company's pitch in one line: “Software, Hardware, and Operating Solutions For Distributed Health Care Networks and Providers.” That is the same description Y Combinator still carries for the company today, word for word.
Below the headline sat a short features list: automatic file backup, real time alerts on client referrals and discharges, team communication tools, and a promise that the technology “works on any device.” A footer gave a contact email at the joinanchor.com domain, a New York area code phone number, and a San Francisco, CA address. The page was copyrighted 2015.
That was Anchor Health: a company that had just been accepted into Y Combinator's Winter 2016 batch, built around two founders and a bet that home health agencies needed better back office tools.
The problem it aimed at
Home health agencies coordinate in home medical and personal care for elderly and disabled patients, and the industry has long run on paper: referral faxes, discharge notes, staffing schedules kept by phone and clipboard. Many agencies are small, thinly staffed offices, and a growing share operate across multiple locations or serve patients remotely through tele-health.
Anchor Health's site named that gap directly. Its features were aimed at a coordinator drowning in documents: automatic backup so files were not lost, real time notification when a client was referred in or discharged, and a shared channel for the care team to track changes. Its benefits pitch leaned on two claims: that the product was HIPAA compliant, and that being “100% Focused on Health Care” made its tools “perfectly tailored” to the industry, as opposed to a generic office platform retrofitted for medicine.
The stated customer was not one office but a network of them. The site promised to connect “a multi-office practice” or “a tele-health provider,” language that matches Y Combinator's own description of a company selling to “distributed health care networks and providers,” not to a single clinic.
Founders
Anchor Health was founded by Jennifer Ma and Ryan Martin. Jennifer Ma's background, training and specific role at the company do not appear in any record found for this profile: no interview, professional bio or press mention surfaced in searches.
Ryan Martin's record is fuller, and it points away from a typical engineering founder. He holds a JD from Duke University School of Law, earned 2006 to 2009, after an undergraduate philosophy degree at the University of Central Florida. Work history records list him as an attorney from 2009 to 2013 and then an associate at a law firm from 2013 to 2015, before Anchor Health. CB Insights currently lists his title at the company as Chief Technology Officer; a separate contact record dates his time there to 2016 and 2017 and labels the role “Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer.” The two records do not agree on which title he held, and neither can be checked against a primary company document.
After Anchor Health, the same record shows Martin moving into venture adjacent roles: a managing director title starting in 2017, a venture partner title starting in 2019, and, much later, an interim chief product officer stint at a separate software company starting in 2024. None of those later roles are in home health.
A site that never changed, then went quiet
The clearest timeline available comes from the Internet Archive. Anchor Health's marketing page, captured January 24, 2016, and captured again October 27, 2017, is textually identical: same headline, same four features, same four benefits, same contact block. Over roughly twenty months, in other words, nothing about the public pitch changed.
The next capture found is from December 10, 2021. By then, joinanchor.com no longer carried any Anchor Health content at all. It served a generic domain parking page, the kind an unrenewed or abandoned domain gets redirected to automatically. Y Combinator's own directory now lists the company's status as Inactive, and YCDB, a third party archive of YC companies, lists it as “Dead.”
What happened in between is not documented anywhere found for this profile. No shutdown post, no acquisition announcement, no founder statement. A secondary aggregator site, Startups.RIP, describes a PitchBook record that it itself calls “low confidence,” pointing to a possible acquisition in December 2021 with no named acquirer and no disclosed terms. No independent report corroborates that record, and PitchBook's own page could not be retrieved to check it directly.

Read plainly: almost nothing about Anchor Health is independently confirmed beyond the fact that it existed, went through Y Combinator, built a working marketing site with a real product pitch, and is now inactive. The funding figure in circulation comes from an aggregator's estimate, not a filing. The one specific claim about how the company ended, a possible December 2021 acquisition, is flagged as low confidence by the source that reports it and could not be checked against a primary record.
What to watch
- Whether an SEC filing, news report or named acquirer ever surfaces to confirm or deny the December 2021 acquisition note.
- Whether either founder discusses the company's outcome publicly.
- Whether any home health agency identifies itself as a past Anchor Health customer.
