Healthcare AI & legal tech · Workers’ compensation
Docura Health
A Y Combinator backed startup building AI software that turns thousands of pages of medical records into chronologies and draft reports for the physicians who write workers’ compensation evaluations. Founded in early 2026, it is still a very young company with almost no outside record beyond its own site and the accelerator that funded it.
The file that ruins a weekend
On its site for evaluating physicians, Docura Health describes the job it is trying to fix in three short lines: the file arrives, hundreds of pages of records, audio, and video, in no order, with the findings that matter buried inside. Then comes the hunt, every date, diagnosis, and prior injury checked against its source and placed into a chronology by hand. Then the write up, usually on a weekend, after the day’s exams.
That is the routine for a Qualified Medical Evaluator, or QME, the physician California law assigns to give an independent opinion once a workers’ compensation claim is disputed and both sides have lawyers. According to Docura Health’s own account, simple cases take six to eight hours of manual review. Complex ones can run multiple days. Agencies exist to help with the paperwork, and the company says they take up to 40 percent of the revenue per case for it.
The problem it targets
Workers’ compensation is not a small system. Docura Health cites IBISWorld and NCCI figures putting US workers’ comp insurance at roughly $51.9 billion in premiums, and it points to a projected $3.51 billion of growth in the independent medical evaluation services market by 2032. The company’s pitch is narrow inside that large system: automate the part of the QME, IME, and AME workflow that is pure administrative burden, record review and report structuring, while leaving the clinical judgment, the exam, the opinion, the signature, to the physician.
The product, per the company’s own description, uploads medical record PDFs and case documents and returns a first report draft in under five minutes and a full compliant review in about 30 minutes, with each item in the summary linked back to its source document. It also includes calculators built around the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, fifth and sixth editions, the standard reference physicians use to turn an exam into a numeric impairment rating.
A solo technical founder
Akhil Sachdev is the only founder named anywhere in the record. His LinkedIn profile describes him as a self starter and Computer Science graduate of UC Berkeley, and lists coursework including Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Principles and Techniques of Data Science. Docura Health’s own about page says he previously built software for clinicians at Commure and engineering systems at Rivian, and that he started Docura after watching doctors lose their weekends to med-legal paperwork instead of being with their families.
An independent assessment site, the YC Tier List, adds detail the company itself does not publish: it estimates Sachdev graduated Berkeley around 2023, spent about a year as a software engineer on Commure’s Applied AI team doing large language model and fine-tuning work, and spent nine months before that co-founding a company called Siff AI. None of that is confirmed on Docura Health’s own site or on Sachdev’s LinkedIn profile as fetched for this report, so it is included here as an independent claim, not a verified fact. The same assessment flags the obvious risk of a single technical founder building in a domain, medical and legal compliance at once, that usually rewards clinical or legal expertise on the founding team.
From launch to Demo Day
Docura Health joined Y Combinator’s Winter 2026 batch and published its public launch page on the YC site. The launch post says the company is “live with multiple healthcare practices and med-legal expert groups,” and that providers working with it have doubled their case volume month over month, with some processing over 50,000 pages a month. It does not name any of those practices, groups, insurers, or law firms.
The same launch post carries an open ask: introductions to qualified or independent medical evaluators who are orthopedic surgeons, pain medicine doctors, or internal medicine doctors, and to med-legal expert groups or lawyers on both the defense and the applicant side. That is the clearest signal in the public record of how early Docura Health’s commercial relationships still are, a company asking its own accelerator network for the customers its launch post says it already has multiples of.
What is proven, and what is still claimed
| Evidence | What the record shows | Source type |
|---|---|---|
| FDA records | No 510(k) or PMA records found for Docura Health. The product is documentation and workflow software, not a regulated device, so FDA clearance would not typically apply. | Not found |
| Clinical trials, NIH, NSF | records.json returned zero ClinicalTrials.gov and NIH RePORTER matches, and 25 NSF awards matched only on the word “Health” appearing in an unrelated awardee’s name. None reference Docura Health, Akhil Sachdev, or the company’s product. | Not found |
| SEC Form D | records.json lists zero Form D filings and zero EDGAR Form D mentions. A direct SEC EDGAR company search for “docura” on Sep 25, 2026 returned no matching companies. | Public record |
| Y Combinator investment | PitchBook and Tracxn each list one investment: $500,000 from Y Combinator, an Accelerator/Incubator deal, dated Jan 29, 2026 by PitchBook and Jan 1, 2026 by Tracxn. Tracxn separately labels this same investment a “Seed round,” which is not how PitchBook classifies it. | Differs between sources |
| Customers | Company and YC launch page describe “multiple healthcare practices and med-legal expert groups” as users, unnamed. An independent site, the YC Tier List, describes a named testimonial on Docura’s own site from Irina Williams, MD, MHA, QME, without reproducing the quoted text. | Company-stated |
| Headquarters | Docura Health’s website, YC profile, and LinkedIn page all list San Francisco, CA. PitchBook instead lists a corporate office at 2608 Paige Way, San Ramon, CA 94582. | Differs between sources |
| Independent press coverage | No article from a news outlet independent of the company was found as of Sep 25, 2026. Coverage found is limited to accelerator and database listings and a LinkedIn launch post from a third party. | Not found |
Read plainly: almost everything specific about Docura Health, who uses it, how much it has raised beyond the YC check, who besides Sachdev works there, comes from the company itself or from data aggregators that do not show their sourcing. That is normal for a company only months past its Y Combinator launch. It also means none of the usage numbers in this profile should be read as verified.
What to watch
- Whether Docura Health names any law firm, insurer, third party administrator, or med-legal expert group as a customer.
- Whether a Form D or any SEC filing appears under the Docura Health name for money raised beyond the Y Combinator investment.
- Independent press coverage or a founder interview, neither of which exists in the public record as of this report.
- Whether the company confirms or corrects the YC Tier List’s account of Sachdev’s time at Commure and at Siff AI.
